Hydrostatic pressure acts as a compression sleeve, it is like nature's supportive hug—it's the pressure exerted by the fluid in all directions on submerged objects. This unique quality provides several benefits for exercising in water:

1. Gentle yet consistent resistance: Think of exercising in water like moving through honey (but way less sticky). Hydrostatic pressure gives you a consistent, gentle resistance that works your muscles evenly without the jarring impacts you get on land.

2. Enhanced circulation: Imagine your veins and arteries getting a gentle massage while you work out. The pressure of the water helps blood flow more effectively, improving circulation and reducing swelling.

3. Reduced joint stress: Exercising in water is like doing Pilates on the softest, cushiest mat ever. The buoyancy of water supports your body weight, minimizing stress on joints and reducing the risk of injury.

4. Improved muscle strength and endurance: Picture trying to walk through a crowd of people at a concert—each step takes a bit more effort. In water, every movement is met with resistance, helping to build strength and endurance over time.

5. Increased balance and stability: It’s like practicing yoga on a slightly wobbly surface, which makes your core work harder. The resistance from all sides keeps your muscles engaged, improving balance and stability.

Water workouts are a win-win: they’re tough on muscles but easy on joints. Ready to dive in and feel the benefits?

hydrostatic

pressure

explained

Viscosity is a fluid’s resistance against an object. In this case, water is 790x more viscous, and provides 12x the resistance than land-based exercises. The density of water is approximately 1,000x greater than air.

Viscosity means ALL your muscles get a resistance workout, allowing for a variety of creative resistance in hydrotherapy, exercises that will not overload muscles or joints.

The resistance or drag of water, combined with hydrostatic pressure and buoyancy, creates the ideal environment for training and therapy. Add in tempo, technique, and additional drag resistance equipment, and voilà you have an incredible recipe for success!*

In buoyancy, the deeper you go, the less weight you have to bear. Water’s zero-impact environment is ideal for getting in shape or recovering from an injury. Weightlessness means you can get an intense workout with less joint stress and pressure. Stretching out tight muscles is much easier because the buoyancy of water helps to improve the range of motion.

In addition, you can rehabilitate without further straining injuries. Taking weight off any injury allows for therapy protocols to begin much sooner than traditional land-based treatments. This means you can rehabilitate faster, stay in shape during recovery, and are ready to get back at it as soon as you heal.
